Williamsburg, Va. – The highly anticipated Greater Williamsburg Sports and Events Center will officially open its doors with a grand opening celebration on Wednesday, June 24, ushering in a new era of sports tourism, community programming and economic impact for the region.
Located adjacent to the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to host a wide range of athletic competitions, tournaments, community programs, corporate trade shows and special events. The Center features versatile hardwood courts, flexible event space, modern amenities for athletes and spectators, and the capacity to accommodate local, regional and national competitions.
The June 24 grand opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with community leaders, guided facility tours, youth sports demonstrations and family-friendly activities. The ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. June 24. Admission is free and open to the public, with an open house until 8:00 p.m.
Residents, business leaders and visitors are invited to attend and experience firsthand the dynamic space that is poised to become a premier destination for competition and community engagement.
The facility reflects a collaborative partnership among York County, James City County and the City of Williamsburg, with support from Visit Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Hotel & Motel Association. Together, these efforts enhance sports tourism, strengthen community engagement, and elevate recreational opportunities across the region.
The Greater Williamsburg Sports and Events Center will drive significant economic activity by attracting traveling teams, tournaments and large-scale events to the area. In addition to sports programming, the facility will serve as a gathering place for expos, corporate events, community celebrations and wellness initiatives.
“The Greater Williamsburg Sports and Events Center is the result of true regional collaboration and long-term commitment to our community’s future. By working together across jurisdictions, we’ve built a destination that will elevate opportunity, drive economic growth, and create meaningful experiences for residents and visitors alike,” says Scott Stevens, chair of Historic Triangle Recreational Facilities Authority.
With its strategic location near world-class historic sites, accommodations and dining, the Center enhances the region’s ability to compete in the growing sports tourism market while delivering year-round benefits to residents.
